Military Medal 'On the night of the 21st/22nd August, 1918, and until mid day on the 22nd, from ETINEHEM to 1,000 yards immediate north of CHIPILLY, No. 905, Lance Corporal SCAFE was in charge of the telephone line from Battalion Headquarters to Brigade Headquarters at the latter place. This line was subject to heavy hostile shelling throughout, and it was only through the personal example and encouragement of Lance Corporal SCAFE that he was enabled to continuously keep his men on their work, and keep up communication during the most important period of the operations. his own personal bravery and devotion to duty and the example this N.C.O. set to his Section throughout, are worthy of the very highest praise.'
