'Near HERLEVILLE, east of AMINES on 18th August, 1918, during the advance of his section an enemy machine gun post was encountered. This N.C.O. rushed out alone and bombed the position enabling his men to advance. Although wounded in the arm he continued to lead his men and actively supervised the consolidation of his portion of the objective. he was then sent to the R.A.P. and after receiving medical attention, acted as guide to a carrying party to our new positions. He then remained on duty in the trench until too weak to continue longer. His coolness and determination had a great effect on the men under his command.'
