Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Ascension Wood on 18 September, 1918. The gallantry of this stretcher bearer, and his untiring devotion to his comrades under heavy and accurate enemy fire, was one of the most marked features of the whole operation. He was seen moving deliberately along the front attending to the wounded, and, although severely wounded in the hand, refused to leave, and carried on for seventy two hours.'
