'In broad daylight on morning of 7th June, 1918, near METEREN, Corporal SCHWAB was one of a party of three who surprised an enemy post and captured two of the enemy. Later, he assisted two others to kill eight of the enemy after a long fight. The post was strongly held and but for the courage and initiative of this N.C.O. the party must have become casualties. The party was forced to evacuate the post on account of extremely heavy machine gun fire which was opened on them from five different positions.'
