Military Medal 'East of WESTHOEK on 27th September, 1917, Driver SCOTT displayed great gallantry and coolness under heavy enemy shell fire. Driver SCOTT was taking water to Battalion Headquarters through a heavy enemy barrage, his cart was capsized by a shell which burst near to him and one of his mules killed. He salvaged the harness from the dead animal borrowed a horse and proceeded on his journey until the cart was again capcized by another shell and the horse killed. Unable to extricate the cart the second time he walked back to the wagon lines, secured another cart and delivered the water to the Battalion Headquarters. On his return journey a third animal was killed.'
