Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. While acting as runner and signaller to his Company during its tour of duty in the line near METEREN from 19th April, 1918 to 1st May, 1918, he showed great courage and devotion to duty. On many occasions he carried messages across ground which was constantly under Artillery and machine gun fire. As a signaller he acted as telephonist and carried out repairs to lines. It was principally due to his disregard of personal safety that communication with all sections was successfully maintained. His devotion to duty and coolness under shell fire were a notable example to his comrades.'
