Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near ASCENSION WOOD on 18th September 1918. As N.C.O. in charge of a bombing party he displayed great determination and set a fine example to his quad and inspired them with the greatest confidence. under exceptionally heavy machine gun fire he led his men over the top into the enemy's trench. On arrival he made himself first bayonet man and his party bombed down the trench for a distance of 900 yards and finally established touch with company on his flank. by his dash and courage he set a fine example to his men and to his individual efforts as bayonet man much of the success of his party is due.'
