Military Medal 'Is brought to notice for gallantry of the highest order during the operations near ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917. This man belongs to the Battalion Headquarters Scout Section, and at all times, no matter how dangerous his task, was thoroughly reliable. He was picked by the officers who had to lay the tapes for the starting point for the attack to assist, and he fearlessly patrolled the ground in front of this place to make sure that all was clear. He went forward with the first attacking troops, and as soon as they had reached their objective he brought back work to the Battalion Headquarters. From this time on he was worked almost without a spell, carrying messages from front to rear, guiding carrying parties etc., all the time under heavy machine gun fire. Fearless of danger and unsparing of self this man's example was an inspiration to all about him.'
