Military Medal 'During the attack on PERONNE on the 1st September 1918, this N.C.O. although wounded in the initial stages of the attack refused to have medical attention and continued leading his platoon to their objective displaying the whole time an utter contempt for danger and great devotion to duty. His example undoubtedly inspired the men to greater efforts and contributed largely to the success of the operation. Later he was of great assistance during the consolidation of his Company and when the Company was ordered to fall back in line with the remainder of the Battalion, he covered the retirement by patrolling the front in company with two other men at great personal risk to himself.'
