Military Medal 'For devoted service during attack on enemy trenches near MORLANCOURT on night of 5th/6th May, 1918. As Company runner he did his dangerous and exhausting work of maintaining communication under shell and machine gun fire during the attack, and afterwards he made many runs to and from the front line across open country exposed to the fire of active snipers. His tireless energy, cheerful manner and cool bearing were an example to all ranks.'
