'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He displayed great courage and determination in tending the wounded continuously for seven hours under very heavy fire.'

Military Medal

'Was conspicuous for his unselfish bravery when acting as stretcher bearer during attack on enemy position on night of 1st/2nd February, 1917, north east of GUEUDECOURT. He displayed exceptional courage in bringing wounded from "No Man's Land", all the time working under very heavy fire. His unselfish conduct undoubtedly saved many lives.'
