'During the operations of 8th August 1918, in front of HAMEL - VILLERS BRETONNEUX, this Driver drove in the centre of a firing Battery Wagon team which lost its wheel horses and had all the others wounded. Driver SHARDLOW was wounded when the team was proceeding to the gun position, but continued his duties. He was wounded again when the wheel horses were killed, but only proceeded to the Dressing Station when ordered to do so by his Section Commander. This Driver set a splendid example and his courage and devotion to duty are worthy of special recognition.'
