Embarked from Australia, 29 September 1915. Fell while on board ship and twisted knee, which thereafter locked continually.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 26 March 1916.

Admitted to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne, 9 July 1916 (synositis, left knee); transferred to England, 18 July 1916; admitted to hospital, treated and released to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 1 September 1916. Knee continuously treated throughtout 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Kenilworth Castle', 12 March 1918; transferred to another ship ('Field Marshall') at Durban, 28 April 1918. Disembarked in Australia, 22 May 1918; discharged, 24 August 1918.
