Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, when under heavy shell fire, in personally assisting a party of volunteers to extinguish a fire which had broken out in a howitzer battery, thereby preventing an explosion of heavy shells and consequent damage and loss of life. His conduct at all times has shown an utter disregard of personal risk.'
