Military Medal 'During the operations east of YPRES on 4th October 1917, Spr. BORLASE volunteered as a runner to carry an important message from Strong Point near MOLENAARELSTHOEK to WESTHOEK, through a particularly dangerous area, and delivered his message promptly. On his return journey he encountered a heavy barrage but persevered bravely until wounded. Knowing that his message was important, he handed it over to another man and directed him to the Strong Point, thus showing a fine example of self-sacrifice, as night having fallen he rendered himself liable of remaining undiscovered in his wounded state until daybreak, knowing that such an exposure would probably cost him his life.'
