Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Reported killed in action, 20 July 1916; subsequently reported Prisoner of War, Germany. Repatriated, December 1918; arrived England, 18 December 1918. Admitted to King George Hospital, Stamford Street, London, 19 December 1918 (bronchitis); transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 23 December 1918; discharged on furlough, 15 January 1919, to report to No 1 Command Depot, 29 January 1919.
