Military Medal 'On 12th October, 1917, East of YPRES, for conspicuous Bravery and devotion to duty. When all the members of his Lewis Gun team were casualties. this N.C.O. showed great gallantry and a high senseof duty by continuing to use his Lewis gun under very heavy shell and Machine Gun fire until he fell wounded. As the advance of his Company was still held up by Machine Guns, at great personal risk, he rushed a Lewis Gun forward to a flank and took up a position in a shell hole, from which he engaged the enemy guns, beating down their fire, and enabling the advance to continue.'
