War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 20 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 30 June 1916. Taken on strength, 32nd Bn, in the field, 2 August 1916. Admitted to 15th Field Ambulance, 5 September 1916 (cardiac debility); transferred to Divisional Rest Station, 7 September 1916; rejoined Bn, in the field, 25 September 1916. Wounded in action, 1 December 1916 (shrapnel wound, left leg and back), and admitted to 36th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 1st Australian General Hospital, Rouen, 3 December 1916; to England, 8 December 1916, and admitted to Beaufort War Hospital, Fishponds, Bristol. Commenced return to Australia on board HS 'Karoola', 3 July 1917; disembarked Adelaide, 23 August 1917; discharged (medically unfit), Adelaide, 6 February 1918. War service: 1 year 357 days (of which 1 year 135 days was abroad) Death originally not attributed to war service.
