Military Medal 'During the operations east of YPRES on the 20th September, 1917, Sgt. SIMPSON was detailed to assist the officer responsible for direction (Lieutenant ARCHIBALD). Before zero hour while the enemy was bombarding our position Sgt. SIMPSON was buried by shellfire and 20 minutes elapsed before he could be dug out and although he was badly shaken he was determined to carry on. While in position on the jumping off tape, Lt. ARCHIBALD was wounded, but was able to move with the attack to the first objective only on account of the invaluable assistance rendered by Sgt. SIMPSON.'
