Other details from Roll of Honour CircularWhilst serving with the Ballarat Naval Cadets under Captain Adency, he marched to Melbourne (78 miles) to watch the visit of the American Fleet on 25 August 1905. He was amongst the first to enlist in Ballarat in the original 8th Battalion and sailed with the first contingent. He fought right through the Gallipoli campaign - landing to evacuation - as a private, corporal and sergeant. Was at the Ferry Post and [Tel El Kebin]. Gained a commission and went to France with the 60th Battalion. Wounded at Fleurbaix and invalided home. Returned July 1917. Killed at Villers-Bretonneux 26 April 1918. Recommended for a Victoria Cross and mentioned in despatches after death.
