QUENTIN, North East of PERONNE, on 31st August 1918, this N.C.O. took charge of a small group of 5 men, and held the enemy from coming round the flank of the company. A shell fell in the position killing two and wounding three of the party. This N.C.O. directed the wounded out and fell back to the main line under heavy Machine Gun fire, where he took charge of a Lewis gun and personally kept up a stream of fire on the enemy who were trying an outflanking movement which was frustrated by his action.'
