Taken on strength, 32nd Bn, Duntroon Plateau, Egypt, 6 April 1916.

Admitted to 1st New Zealand Stationary Hospital, Ismailia, 24 March 1916 (not yet diagnosed: pyrexia); discharged to duty, 4 April 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916.

Wounded in action, 19 July 1916 (gun shot wound, both hand), and admitted same day to 15th Field Ambulance, and transferred to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, 20 July 1916, and transferred by Ambulance Train No 7 to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne, 21 July 1916; transferred to England, 21 July 1916, and admitted to Silver Street Military Hospital, Edmonton, London, 22 July 1916; transferred to King Edward's Hall, Church End, Finchley, 22 July 1916.

Marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 21 September 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 24 January 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 6 March 1917.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 27 May 1918 (shrapnel wound, back and right shoulder), and admitted to 14th Australian Field Ambulance and transferred to 5th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 41, 30 May 1918, and admitted to 1st Canadian General Hospital, Etretat, 2 June 1918; to England, 10 June 1918, and admitted to Horton County of London War Hospital, Epsom, 11 June 1918; transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 1 July 1918; discharged on furlough, 3 July 1918, to report to No 4 command Depot, Hurdcott, 17 July 1918.

Marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 19 Septembwer 1918.

Proceeded overseas to France, 17 October 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 21 October 1918.

Marched out to England for return to Australia, 5 March 1919; disembarked Weymouth, 15 March 1919, and marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny.

Found guilty, 9 April 1919, of being absent without leave, 2359, 4 April, to 2200, 8 April 1919: admonished, and forfeited 4 days' pay.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Devanah', 8 May 1919; disembarked Adelaide, 20 June 1919; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), Adelaide, 12 August 1919.
