War service: Egypt, Gallipoli

Was at the landing, 25 April 1915; Courtney's Post, Steele's Post. Wounded at Steele's Post, 13 May 1915: bullet enetered his head, passed through the neck into the spine, where it remained. Being permanently incapacitated in the use of his left arm, Bottomley was discharged as medically unfit. Following his return to Australia he engaged in recruiting duties in the Henty electorate 'with considerable success'. ('Australia's Fighting Families', Section I, p. 5)
