Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He handled his platoon with great courage and initiative. Later he was in charge of carrying parties, and carried out his work with marked ability under very trying conditions.'

Military Medal

'Is recommended for his conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operation on enemy position EAST of JEANCOURT on the morning of 18th September, 1918. This N.C.O., during the advance, by his dash and bravery set a wonderful example to the N.C.O's. and men of his Company. He rendered valuable assistance to his Company Commander in the reorganisation of the Company at the first objective under very heavy machine gun fire. When the Company was went forward to support the 14th Battalion, this N.C.O. personally guided the ration and ammunition parties from the rear over country which was heavily shelled. At all times during the operation he showed utter disregard of danger and his dash and initiative together with skilful manner in which he led parties of men enabled his Company to reach the final objective with exceptionally light casualties.'
