Military Medal 'At Villers-Bretonneux during the operations on the night of 24/25th April, 1918, this man as battalion runner showed most conspicuous courage and devotion to duty. His work continually took him across open country swept by machine-gun and sniper fire, yet he was consistently cheerful and ready to volunteer for the most dangerous runs. During the whole period he set a splendid example of courage and energy and maintained a high standard of work throughout.'
