War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 9 November 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 9 January 1917; marched into 10th Training Bn, Larkhill, 10 January 1917. Found guilty, 13 April 1917, of failing at Durrington Camp to appear at place of parade appointed by his CO: awarded 7 days' confined to barracks. Proceeded overseas to France, 20 April 1917; to the front, 23 April 1917; taken on strength, 38th Bn, 24 April 1917. Wounded in action, 12 October 1917; admitted to 24th General Hospital, Etaples, 12 October 1917 (gun shot wound, right leg); transferred o England, 4 November 1917, and admitted to Royal Victorian Hospital, Netley, 5 November 1917; to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 5 March 1918. Commenced return to Australia from London on board 'Dunluce Castle', 8 April 1918; transferred to 'Karoola' at Suez, and embarked, 27 April 1918; disembarked, Sydney, 28 May 1918; discharged (medically unfit), 27 November 1918.
