Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a runner during an attack. He passed through the heaviest barrages carrying messages and maintaining communication, and, though twice blown up, he remained on duty until the battalion was relieved. He set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty.'
