Military Medal 'On 29th September, 1918, during operations South of BONY, the Company withdrew to conform to the general line. This had to be carried out under very trying conditions and heavy enemy fire. Private SMITH, when the Company had withdrawn, remained in the forward area within close proximity to the enemy, bandaging and rendering first aid to the wounded who had to be left. He succeeded in bringing back no less than 10 men to our lines.'
