War service: England Embarked Adelaide, 16 December 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 16 February 1917. Admitted to Military Hospital, Fovant, 6 February 1917 (mumps); discharged, 22 February 1917. Found guilty, 24 April 1917, of (1) when on Active Service an act to the prejudice of good order and military discipline, in that he at 10.30 pm on 22.4.17 struck a motor car with a stick; (2) conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he at Wilton, 10.30 pm on 22.4.17, when under escort, speaking of the Military Police, to Pte Smith, used indecent language; (3) conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he at Wilton at 10.30 pm, 22.4.17, when under escort & warned to cease talking used indecent language: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited £3.10.0 in pay. Marched in to 15th Training Bn, Codford, 5 November 1917. Marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 17 December 1917. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Balmoral Castle', 1 February 1918; disembarked Adelaide; discharged, (medically unfit: rheumatism; condition predated enlistment),Adelaide, 8 April 1918.
