Meritorious Service Medal

'This Non-Commissioned Officer is the Sergeant Cook of the Battalion, and is recommended for continuous good work and devotion to duty often involving very considerable personal risks. It is due in a very large measure to the unfailing efforts of this Non-commissioned Officer that on no occasion during the period under review have the men of the Battalion been without at least one hot meal per day. No effort was spared, and no risk was refused by this Non-commissioned Officer in order to carry out his work and to ensure hot food reaching the men in the firing line.'
