Left at Alexandria, when 7th Bn proceeded to Gallipoli, as Foreman, 'C' Coy, to join the Australian Overseas Base, 4 April 1915. Taken on strength, 59th Bn, Moascar, 2 June 1916. Promoted Sergeant, 3 June 1916.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 29 June 1916. On command to 5th Divisional Salvage Company, 13 July 1916; transferred to 5th DSC, 10 January 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 3 September 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 23 September 1917. To United Kingdom on leave, 4 September 1918; rejoined unit, 23 September 1918.
