War service: England Embarked Melbourne, 23 November 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 29 January 1917. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 23 February 1917; discharged from Parkhouse hospital, 12 March 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 18 days. Found guilty, 5 May 1917, of being absent from Durrington Camp from 6.30 am, 17 April, until reporting to his Company lines at about 9.30 pm, 1 May 1917: awarded 168 hours' detention, and forfeiture of a total of 25 days' pay. Found guilty by District Court Court Martial, Larkhill, 24 July 1917, of being absent without leave from 27 May until 15 June 1917: awarded 30 days' detention, and forfeited a total of 88 days' pay.
