Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action East of YPRES on 4th October 1917. Although wounded early in the advance, he kept going until the final objective was rushed. He did excellent work throughout and on one occasion dug out some of his mates who had been buried. All this was done under intense shell fire. he refused to go back to the Dressing Station until ordered by his Officer. His example was most inspiring to others.'
