Disembarked Alexandria from Mudros, 9 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Admitted to 6th Field Ambulance, Tel el Kebir, 11 January 1916 (headache); transferred to No 2 Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 12 January 1916 (not yet diagnosed); to No 2 Auxiliary Hospital, Cairo, 17 January 1916; to Overseas Base, Cairo, 17 January 1916; discharged to duty, 5 February 1916.

Found guilty, 16 February 1916, of being absent without leave, 13-15 February 1916: forfeited 3 days' pay.

Admitted to No 2 Australian General Hospital, 16 February 1916 (alcoholism).

Proceeded to join 25th Bn, Ismailia, 5 March 1916.

Found guilty, 31 March 1916, of being absent without leave, 13-21 March 1916: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of 9 days' pay; total forfeiture: 23 days' pay.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 15 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 21 March 1916.

Found guilty, 17 April 1916, of drunkenness: fined 5/-.

Found guilty, 16 July 1916, of being absent without leave, 14-15 July 1916: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Admitted to hospital, 16 July 1916 (sprained ankle); discharged to Divisional Base, 16 August 1916; rejoined Bn, 21 September 1916.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Persic', 21 December 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 12 February 1918; transshipped to HT 'Ormonde' for travel to Sydney, then overland to Brisbane; discharged, Brisbane, 16 March 1918.
