Military Medal

'On 13th September, 1918, near Le Verguier, N.W. of St. Quentin, during an attack on enemy positions without artillery support, this N.C.O. kept his section well in hand although under heavy machine-gun and rifle fire and led his men to the objective, which he immediately consolidated. The enemy counter-attacked almost at once and drove our troops back on both flanks of his post, leaving him practically surrounded. He stuck to his post with a few men and engaged the enemy with rifle and machine-gun fire until our troops advanced again to the attack. By sticking to his post he no doubt materially assisted in the recapture of the position.'
