'This man was on continuous duty in POLYGON WOOD near Ypres from night of 25th/26th September, 1917 to 27th September, 1917. He was twice buried by shells and twice had men in his squad wounded but though much shaken carried on and on afternoon 27th September, 1917 brought in two wounded men by himself under heavy fire.'
