Military Medal

'For conspicuous bravery and judgement near ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917, when in charge of a party digging a strong point forward of the front line. He went forward with the first wave of the attacking Infantry, selected the site for the strong point, cooperating with the unit of the Division on his left flank. He showed great coolness and judgement in selecting the site, the field of fire, and arranging for mutual support with the strong point on his left, although several of his party were wounded. It was due to his fine example and cheerfulness under adverse circumstances that the work was speedily and satisfactorily carried out.'
