Military Medal 'On the 7th June, 1917, during operations south of MESSINES. This N.C.O. was in charge of a Stokes Mortar Gun Team, and was badly gassed during the approach march to the jumping off trenches. He lay unconscious by the roadside for some time, the remainder of the team going on. When he recovered he picked up his base plate and tools and moved forward and eventually succeeded in finding the remainder of his team. Through the subsequent advance he showed great courage, determination and resource. His gun pits were blown out on 5 occasions, but he succeeded in establishing a good permanent position.'
