War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 4 September 1915. Disembarked Alexandria from Mudros, 9 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 14 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 19 March 1916. Reported missing, 29 July 1916. Now, 14 August 1916, reported prisoner of war, Germany (wounded: shell splinters in face). Died of wounds (sepsis), Gottingen, 14 August 1916. Statement, Red Cross File No 2570507Q, 1874 Pte K.H. MORRELL, B Company, 25th Bn, 23 January 1919: 'He died at Gottingen in Hospital about 2 weeks after I got there in August 1916. He died about 3rd week in August from wounds. I was in same ward, but did not speak to him as I was pretty bad myself. He was paralyzed. I think he was wounded in abdomen. Was buried at Gottingen, but I was not at his funeral.'
