'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He did remarkably good work with his squadron during heavy street fighting, using a Hotchkiss gun and an automatic rifle, and dispersing a number of the enemy who were checking the advance of another unit. He followed up the enemy, firing at very close range, and accounted for a number of them himself.'
