'Corporal James SNOWIE is recommended for bravery and devotion to duty whilst in charge of a Pack Train carrying rations and water to the front line near Zonnebeke. The Pack Train came under a severe barrage from heavy guns, 1 mule was killed and 2 wounded, the train was cut in half and some of the Drivers in the rear left their mules. SNOWIE went back into the shelled area, and collected the frightened animals, and the loads from the mules whch were hit and brought them all through to their destination. The work of the Pack on the occasion of this tour was performed under most dangerous and trying circumstances and it is only due to such brave example that supplies were maintained and the men in the front line properly fed.'
