Meritorious Service Medal 'During the period 25th February to 16th September 1918 the work done by this man whilst acting as an N.C.O. in the Battalion Transport has been of the highest standard. His work has on many occasions led him into positions of extreme danger, but, when tested under conditions of difficulty or danger, this man is always seen to the greatest advantage . During the period the Battalion was in the line at WYTCHAETE, and later on the SOMME, his work was of the utmost value to his unit, particularly during the recent operations when called upon to get forward mules, S.A.A. and c. This man's initiative and gallantry enabled this to be done although casualties were inflicted upon both our transport personnel and the animals.'
