'On 7th June, 1917, sough of MESSINES, during an attack on the enemy's positions, he led his section with gret dash and played a leading part in breaking down strong opposition in the line chosen for consolidation. During the work of consolidation he cooly directed operations regardless of fire from snipers and machine guns, and set a splendid example to the members of his section.'
