Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his company to the support of a battalion with great skill and over very difficult ground, which he had not previously reconnoitered. The following day he led them in daylight across the open, recaptured a portion of our line from the enemy, and pushed strong posts in front. These operations were rendered extremely difficult and dangerous by the activity of the hostile machine guns and snipers. He displayed the utmost gallantry and good judgement throughout.'
