'For conspicuous gallantry and ability near BULLECOURT in the HINDENBURG Line on 3rd May 1917 when in charge of the Amplifier at Advanced Battalion Headquarters in the captured trenches. His work was invaluable in passing information to Brigade Headquarters when all other means had failed and was instrumental in directing artillery fire on repeated enemy counter attacks and bomb attacks. he was continuously on duty for over 24 hours for the greater part of the time under heavy shell fire.'
