Military Medal 'On 4th October 1917, East of YPRES, he displayed conspicuous gallantry and initiative in action. When his Platoon was held up by an enemy strong-point, firing two Machine guns, he, on his own initiative, worked forwarded, sniping the enemy gunners and so enabling others to advance and capture the whole garrison consisting of one Officer and Twenty Other Ranks. Throughout the whole day, he exhibited great coolness and disregard of self and by his skilful sniping, enabled his Platoon to advance against other strong points.'
