Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while sending messages visually in the open under heavy shell fire. He was badly wounded in the hand while doing so but carried on as linesman all the following day until ordered to report at Dressing Station. He continually repaired lines under heavy shell fire and set an excellent example to the men under his charge during the attack on 20th September 1917 near WESTHOEK.'
