'At ZONNEBEKE on 12th October 1917, Gunner STEVENS accompanied the F.O.O. during the attack by our Infantry, as telephonist, and although under heavy enemy shell and machine gun fire, at frequent intervals throughout the action maintained communication and thus enabled the transmission of several important communications. I strongly recommend this man for award.'
