Military Medal 'During the operations of August 30th 1918, near CLERY-sur-SOMME, Private STEVENS acted as a Company runner and had to make continuous trips over long distances. At daylight on August 30th it was discovered that the approaches to the Headquarters of the Company could be swept by machine gun fire, and during the whole of the day the locality was subjected to this fire and also bursts of fierce artillery fire. Through all this Private STEVENS made repeated journeys to Battalion Headquarters and also the platoons and showed the greatest gallantry and devotion to duty.'
