Meritorious Service Medal 'For gallant conduct and devotion to duty whilst a prisoner of war in Germany. During an epidemic of Spanish Influenza amongst the prisoners of war at 1st Holland Camp Hospital, Germany, Private STEVENSON in his self appointed task as medical attendant to his comrades, worked long hours daily in the effected wards. Owing to there being one man, Rifleman STRONG, R.I.R. too ill to be moved from the Camp to England, Private STEVENSON has undertaken to remain behind in order to attend to STRONG until his recovery is complete. The number of Doctors attending to the prisoners of war was insufficient and their recovery is mainly due to the self sacrifice and devotion of Private STEVENSON.'
